Volvo’s new 94g/km CO2 hatch from under £20k

Volvo-V40-on-the-road_thumb Volvo’s new V40 hatchback is to cost from £19,745 when it arrives in showrooms from September.

The five seat, five door model, first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, will feature economy as strong as 78.5mpg and emissions as low as 94g/km CO2, making it an attractive proposition to cost-conscious fleets and business car drivers.

Aimed squarely and BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 territory, the new premium hatchback, will also benefit from Volvo’s typical safety focus; becoming the first in the world to feature a pedestrian airbag, an innovation which helps reduce the severity of pedestrian injuries in the event of an impact. The model is also the only one in its class to fit City Safety as standard and offer Pedestrian Detection, effective at speeds of up to 22mph.

Company car users will benefit from strong Benefit In Kind (BIK) figures, with the the lowest emission V40 D2 variant costing £43 and £85 for 20% and 40% tax payers respectively; beating the BMW 116d ED (£45 and £90) and the Audi A3 1.6 TDI (£48 and £97). It undercuts both on price too, with its BMW and Audi rivals both costing over £20,000.

The luxury hatchback will be available in ES, SE and SE LUX trim with Bluetooth fitted as standard across the range. Customers can place orders now with production starting in May-first deliveries are expected to be in September.

Available with a 1.6-litre diesel engine, generating 115 hp and 285 Nm of torque, the car comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and start/stop function, meaning ultra-low CO2 emissions and no road tax. A petrol engine choice will also be available .

As standard the entry-level ES model includes City Safety technology; Bluetooth with music streaming; high performance audio with 5" colour display screen; Electronic Climate Control; 16" Matres alloy wheels; Dynamic Stability and Traction Control; power windows; leather steering wheel and gear knob; and textile floor mats.

In addition, all Volvo V40 Nav models include a fully integrated satellite navigation system with voice-activated control, a 7" colour display screen and DVD player. As well as full European mapping, two complimentary annual map updates are also included.
