First, her Mert and Marcus-directed “Girl Gone Wild” video for her new MDNA album was slapped with an 18-or-older age restriction on YouTube. Now her commercial for her new Truth or Dare fragrance has been deemed too sexy for TV by ABC, the New York Post is reporting.
The video, which leaked online yesterday, shows Madonna doing what Madonna does: writhing around in corsets and fishnets and some bondage gear. But it was too much t and a for ABC. The Disney-owned network has ordered that the perfume producers digitally alter the commercial so Madge is more covered up. A source told Page Six, “ABC viewed the ad [and] came back with a list of changes. They say they want her bra digitally made bigger, and to extend higher to cover more of her chest, and her corset longer to cover more of her bottom. ABC also wants to cut another suggestive scene where Madonna writhes around.” And even after they cover Madge up, ABC only wants the ad airing after 9 p.m. and during The View? Because The View is so racy?
I’ve watched it a bunch of times now and I don’t really see what the big deal is. And while the “Girl Gone Wild” video is racier still and features some sweaty mostly naked boys, I’m not really seeing what’s so taboo about it either (see it here–if you’re over 18). Plus, what’s the point of looking like that at 53 if you can’t flaunt it?
Of course, this isn’t the first time (at all) that Madonna’s been censored. MTV banned her “Erotica” video in 1990. But really what this all seems to suggest is that if at 53 Madonna is still catching flack for being too provocative then she’s still got it. Props, Madge.
